Hands on CPR – New Guidelines

Have you ever learned CPR or know of the new Hands on CPR guidelines? Have you thought about what you would do if you were needed in a life or death moment? Learning the new Hands on CPR guidelines is easy and efficient – you can do it! The new guidelines created by the American Heart Association are designed not to intimidate but to be useful. It is now easier than ever and you only have to remember two steps.

Unless you are a trained professional and can handle the pressure who could remember the counting, the breathing, the pushing etc.? I think I would be too intimidated or frankly, scared, and I may not even try at all. Luckily, now the American Heart Association has made the new Hands on CPR guidelines easy to remember and hopefully easy to do in a time of need. By creating this new Hands on CPR program, they are literal – Hands Only!

Step One of Hands on CPR require you to call 911! How easy is that? You pick up the phone and you make a call. This step alone could save a life. If you get nervous because you do not know what to do, just pick up the phone and the step is complete. I think even under the worst pressure, you could remember to yell for help. Do not worry, you can not go wrong if you are trying.  Besides, with Step 1 of Hands on CPR already completed you are half way there.

Step Two of Hands on CPR require you to start pushing. Push hard, keep pushing and do not stop until another person can take over for you or a professional is there. You do not have to count or measure or try to remember how many breaths before pumping – just pump. If you do remember your high school course and can do the specifics great, but just remember to – Get hands on!

Remember that you should use the new Hands on CPR on adults only. To use the steps on children, infants or animals it may not lead to a life saving experience.

The American Heart Association still urges to get training in specifics of CPR beyond the Hands on CPR approach but at the very least, these new steps will work. Hopefully though, you will remember the Hands on CPR in a time of emergency with an adult.
